Professional Teeth Whitening Treatments in Atlanta
Our Atlanta aesthetic dental practice offers gentle, efficient, same-day teeth whitening treatments for our patients who desire a beautiful white smile.
In many situations, whiter teeth provide a foundation for planning future cosmetic dental treatments, such as dental veneers, porcelain crowns, or dental implants. As the new restorations are designed by hand, we match them to the brighter, whiter shade of your neighboring teeth.
Benefits of a Whiter Smile
Whitening is an excellent cosmetic treatment on its own. If you’re looking to add a vibrant and youthful appearance to your teeth, then an in-office treatment is one of the best options to consider. Remove years of stain and natural discoloration from your smile in just one trip to our Atlanta dental practice.
Most people find that whitening their teeth helps them to feel more confident about their appearance. Feeling free to laugh or talk in front of others can have a significant impact on your professional and social life, not to mention your self-esteem.
Opalescence In-Office Teeth Whitening Procedures: What to Expect
For our same day teeth whitening treatments, we use Opalescence products; they’re gentler, safer, and work quickly for significant results when compared to other major brands.
Your entire procedure takes about 1-1.5 hours to complete. When you’re short on time or prefer not to whiten on your own at home, in-office treatments work best.
First, our Atlanta cosmetic dentist will record the shade of your natural teeth, so that we can measure the difference in pre- and post-treatment. Then, any superficial stains will gently be polished away.
A protective coating is applied to the gums to prevent any discomfort should the whitening gel come into contact with them. Next, the Opalescence gel is brushed onto your teeth. Because it’s activated as soon as it comes into contact with your enamel, there’s no need for a UV light. Stain particles are oxidized and lifted from your porous tooth structure in a safe and effective manner.
Finally, the gel is rinsed away to reveal whiter, brighter teeth. These steps are generally repeated 3-4 times, until the desired tooth color is achieved. As soon as you look in the mirror, you’ll see what looks like a completely brand-new smile. Same day treatments are perfect for:
- Weddings
- Graduations
- Portraits
- Making a great first impression
- After completing orthodontic therapy
- As part of your smile makeover
- Re-entering the job force
- Self-improvement
Take Home Professional Whitening Treatments
Some of our patients prefer to whiten their teeth in the convenience of their own homes. Our professionally fitted whitening trays are complimentary with your in-office treatment, to maintain optimum whitening throughout the years to come.
After taking an impression of your teeth, we create a custom whitening tray that looks similar to a clear retainer or orthodontic aligner. Apply a small amount of Opalescence prescription strength gel to the surfaces of the tray that come into contact with your “visible” smile. Then, insert the tray into your mouth and gently tap along each tooth to ensure that the gel is in full contact with your enamel.
Depending on the strength of the gel we prescribe, you can wear your trays for as little as 30 minutes per day, or sleep in them overnight. Then, remove your trays and clean your teeth and tray with a wet toothbrush to remove residual gel.
Opalescence take-home whitening treatments keep your teeth white, with simple touch- ups after your routine cleanings. Or, you can alternately choose to whiten your teeth by using the product daily for 10-14 days without an in-house procedure. Each tube contains added ingredients to strengthen enamel and reduce the risk of sensitivity.
Get the Most Out of Your Treatment
To help your teeth stay white, we recommend:
- Avoiding liquids that are known for staining teeth, such as red wine, coffee, tea, etc.
- Scheduling regular dental cleanings
- Touching up with your home kit every 3-6 months
Am I a Candidate for Atlanta Teeth Whitening?
Before any type of cosmetic treatment, it’s important to ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy. Structural damage such as decay or cracks in your enamel, or untreated periodontitis, are contraindications for whitening. Our Atlanta dentist will thoroughly assess your mouth to make sure it’s healthy enough before starting treatment.
If you have any existing dental work — such as porcelain crowns or white fillings — that are visible when you smile, these will need to be changed out after you whiten, so that they match your new tooth color. Because restorative materials cannot be bleached, they will continue to remain the same shade. That’s why we suggest whitening your teeth prior to performing any other types of permanent dental work toward the front of your mouth.
