It’s very common for us to see patients in our Atlanta, Georgia dental office that are nervous or anxious about getting any dental treatment done. We are proud to offer sedation dentistry options that are available to those people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to go through with their much-needed procedure. These options are outlined below.
Types of Sedation Dentistry
When it comes to sedation dentistry you may have several choices. Our dentist will discuss your options with you and help you decide which one is right for your situation.
Nitrous Oxide
Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is a sedative that you inhale, which is administered through a mask that sits on your nose. Nitrous oxide doesn’t put you completely to sleep but it’s administered in a way that it relaxes you enough to the point where you are less aware of your surroundings and feel relaxed. The best part? It totally wears off within a matter of minutes, so you don’t have any lingering drowsiness.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation is administered in pill form. Typically taken about one hour prior to your arrival, this medication begins to work by making you sleepy and relaxed. When oral sedation is at its best, you’ll sleep peacefully throughout the procedure but wake easily and be able to respond to all of our instructions. Most patients experience an amnesiac effect and say that they remember very little, or even nothing about their visit to the dentist.
